Thomas Abraham - From Chakras to Vehicles: The Evolution of Consciousness Via the Body

The following is a theoretical model for the evolution of consciousness as reflected in the development of the holochakra, otherwise known as the energosoma; a term referring to the network of chakras constituting the individual’s energetic body. Here, I draw comparisons between the widely accepted materialist theory concerning the evolution of species (i.e. Darwinian) and the less accepted multidimensional account concerning the evolution of individual consciousnesses (i.e. Conscientiological). I argue that both evolutionary processes co-occur in parallel and dynamically interact thus culminating in physical forms (i.e. bodies) that are suitably adapted not only for their respective environments but to the individual consciousnesses that inhabit them. Likewise, I review each of the primary chakras of the energosoma in terms of its respective function, physiological correlates, and possible species-level phylogenic correspondences. Lastly, I propose that the chakras exist as preeminent energies which drive the physical evolutionary process. As it pertains to rites of passage, I argue that a consciousness evolves serially across multiple lifetimes embodying varying physical forms in progression from rudimentary single-celled organisms to advanced human body types. The chakras, therefore, represent stages of development along this evolutionary trajectory.
