Julia Assante - Living Relationships with the Deceased, a Great Cure for Grief

Thirty years ago, bereavement counselors typically encouraged mourners to cut all ties with the deceased. The current trend is to stay connected through acts of remembrance, such as dwelling on photographs of the deceased and writing them letters. Although such coping strategies for grief are useful, they are not enough. The most effective methods are also the most controversial - maintaining ties through ADCs. Direct, unmediated contact with a departed loved one instantly alleviates grief. Therapeutically induced ADCs work wonders in treating acute grief, suicide longing, and death-related PTSD. Surveys show that afterlife encounters are surprisingly commonplace. Exposure to communication technology is a principal reason ADCs are now on the rise. Raw need is another. Fortunately, specific training techniques can bring out the medium in anyone. Developing ongoing relationships with the deceased is an even better response to loss. "Living relationships" erase intrusive memories, transform grief into euphoria, eradicate loneliness, and lead to a joyful life-path. Interaction with our late loved ones as they really are, without the fear of death - impossibly aware, loving, compassionate, accountable - is life-changing. Living relationships put us face-to-face with immortality, a revelatory event in itself. Through them we experience the magic of the afterlife and its ineffable luminous Presence.
