 A recent article indicates the international AWARE study is proceeding towards its targeted conclusion next year. Dr. Sam Parnia, one of the project originators, mentions interesting results but provides no clues about whether a target has been identified by an out-of-body experiencer. He said: “The evidence that is interesting to me is that, contrary to my training, the entity we call the human mind and consciousness appears to continue to exist during the early stage of death.” In another recent interview, Dr. Parnia stated that study results will be published in late 2011 or early 2012, at the earliest.

Conference Theme: Lives Changed Forever: Perspectives from Experiencers, Science, and Spirituality
The 2011 IANDS Conference will be held Friday through Sunday, September 2 - 4, 2011 (Labor Day weekend). There will be a seminar for IANDS Group Leaders on Thursday, September 1. We are pleased to have the conference again at the Millennium Hotel in Durham, located across the street from the IANDS offices.
The conference will focus on the aftereffects of near-death experiences. For many people, the aftereffects of their NDE are wide-ranging and profound: their lives are changed forever. The conference will include presentations from the perspectives of NDErs, scientific research and spirituality. This year is our 30th birthday, so we will also celebrate a Happy 30th Birthday to IANDS!

 Dr. Raymond Moody's new book, Glimpses of Eternity: Sharing a loved one's passage from this life to the next, on Shared Death Experiences was recently published. Written with Paul Perry, this book provides numerous examples of the shared death experience in which persons present at the death of a loved one experience leaving their own body, viewing the life review of their loved one and traveling part-way toward the Light. Moody describes seven key elements of the shared death experience which are very similar to those of the near-death experience.

 Cornell University professor Dr Daryl Bem's recently published article in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology is headlined as "Have Scientists Finally Discovered Evidence for Psychic Phenomena?!" in this online report from Psychology Today. It could be questioned what happened to all the "evidence" reported by serious researchers since the late 19th century but the breakthru in academic media coverage is worth noting.
