Jason MacLurg, MD
Jason MacLurg, MD
Private Practice of Psychiatry
Seattle, WA

Dr. MacLurg serves currently as President of the Washington State Psychiatric Association, and he has lectured and co-authored publications on NDEs. Dr. MacLurg will co-present, with Jeff Long, MD, “Characteristics of Western NDErs” during Segment 1.

Dr. MacLurg learned to work closely with the nursing, social work, and other medical staff while Chief Resident of the Psychiatric Consultation Liaison Service at UCSD Medical Center where he was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Resident award. Upon completion of residency training, he began a private practice in general adult and geriatric psychiatry in Seattle, doing both inpatient and outpatient service. He also worked as a staff paychiatrist at several community mental health clinics. In 2000, he took a sabbatical from his private practice and worked as a consultant psychiatrist at North Shore Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. While there, he gained an appreciation for the spiritual, cross-cultural, and socio-cultural components of psychiatry from the indigenous Maori Mental Health Service. Aware that a healthy mental state is more than medicine and transference, he now includes spiritual and meditative practices in his work with patients. He has lectured on applications of near-death experiences at the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) conferences in several cities, and he has facilitated an "Issues Workshop" on near-death experiences at the 2004 American Psychiatric Association Annual meeting in New York City. He has served on the Board of Directors for IANDS.
