Dr. Kellehear recently left his position as Foundation Professor of Palliative Care and Director of the Palliative Care Unit, Faculty of Health Sciences, La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia, to take his new position in the U.K. Author of 17 books and numerous journal publications, including those that address non-Western NDEs, he will present “NDEs throughout History and across Cultures” during Segment 1.
Allan Kellehear is a sociologist. In addition to his position at La Trobe University, he served as an adjunct Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne Medical School. Since 2000, he has held visiting professorships at the Religious Experience Research Centre at Westminster College, Oxford, and at the University of Tokyo. His 17 books include textbooks, scholarly monographs, and popular works about death, dying, loss, and palliative care, as well as numerous topics in public health, health social sciences, and research methodology. His latest book, A Social History of Dying, will be published by Cambridge University Press in 2007.
